Being the huge Stella and Michael Show/Black and David Wain fan that I am, I somehow missed this video from last week. But, I thought it was worth posting here. It’s at an Obama campaign event in NYC. And I’m not going to get political just yet. (and I can’t embed it since it isn’t youtube video)

How does a video become VIRAL? What does Viral mean? I think that this Web 2.0 (Yeah I know, I said it…) phrase is still pretty new to the 21st Century Lexicon. All of us who work in the new media and web industry either know the definition, or are so used to performing a Viral act that we don’t think twice about it. Well, posting that video here is an act of Virality. It’s a Viralicious addition to the Un-Viraltized aspects of this blog. Spread the video around – share it with the world for free and for fun.I think companies and organizations that try to weigh and measure the phrase Viral are confused about the nature of the Internet. We TAG our blog items/posts/videos, we Slash Dot it, we Facebook it, and we DIGG IT! But does that necessarily mean that the content is gold-plated/time-tested/sponge-worthy, or, more importantly, commercially viable? Will this simple WEB 2.0 (AGAIN I SAID IT!) act (or click of the mouse/flick of the wrist) make something profitable? No, no, no, it’s just something that was worth seeing once. We probably won’t check out on related items, we probably won’t bookmark the web page it was hosted on, and we definitely won’t give credit to the original producer/writer of the item.
We are simply too worried about finding the next item, and the next item, and the next item. The search and unquenchable thirst for entertainment is unregulated in the 21st Century. For those that have grown up without computers in the classroom, they think it’s scary, or hard to understand, or just plain stupid. Those in my generation that have grown up with computers in the classroom (green text and Carmen San Diego games), we use it, we talk about it, we appreciate it for what it is – a major social revolution, but not without its drawbacks and cons. We recognize the importance of human to human contact, at least on it’s face value. And whether or not we act on the feeling, at LEAST WE KNOW IT’S THE RIGHT THING. And for those out there who have grown up with computers in the classroom, mobile phones in their pockets, and count their generations by game consoles (are we in the 7th or 8th generation now?), you guys are royally screwed up. I hope the doctors stop making up diseases and conditions for what is CLEARLY OVER STIMULATION. It is not ADD, it’s not ADHD, it’s not “s/he doesn’t play well with others…” It is simply the unregulated control of entertainment and information that is part of the 21st Century. It’s up to the parents to help introduce their children slowly and intelligently into this new world. I know this is a completely out of control blog entry, but it’s probably worth opening a discussion too.
Now I gotta get this blog viral so we can get some comments!!
